Scottish Government launch charity law consultation

Increasing trust and transparency in the sector.

Scottish Government consultation on charity law sets out options to change the current regulatory system in Scotland that would increase transparency, accountability and public trust in charities.

Options in the consultation include:

  • An external register of charity trustees
  • Publishing annual reports and accounts in full for all charities on the Scottish Charity Register
  • Removal of charities from the Scottish Charity Register that are persistently failing to submit annual reports and accounts and may no longer exist
  • All charities in the Scottish Charity Register to have and retain a connection in Scotland

The consultation runs from 7 January 2019 until 1 April 2019.

The Scottish Government is seeking views from members of the public, the charity sector, and anyone with an interest in charity law.
